Work
2025 - Present
Bacteriology Laboratory Assistant
Auburn University Veterinary Teaching Hospital
Auburn, AL
- Processed animal specimens for bacterial and fungal pathogens for identification
- Conducted susceptibility testing to support veterinarians in treatment options
In August of 2025, I began working at the Bacteriology/Mycology Lab in the Auburn University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Through this experience, I learned how to accurately prepare a variety of animal specimens for bacterial and fungal identification. Once the cause of the infection has been identified by the microbiologists, I conducted several different methods of susceptibility testing, both manually (Kirby-Bauer method) and automatically (Vitek/BioMIC machines).
All things considered, this job has greatly changed the way I approach ever-changing procedures and processes. Each specimen must be handled differently and with great care. Accuracy is a requirement for this type of work because one mistake can greatly impact the outcome. Within my first year at the lab, the director of the hospital began implementing major changes to ensure accuracy and increase speed in the whole department. This caused me to quickly adapt to the new changes, even though I was still getting used to the original rules. While this job is not related to my career goals, it has taught me many lessons that will help me in my future occupation.
2026 - Present
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Stormwater Research Facility at Auburn University
Auburn, AL
- Prepared testing equipment for daily experimental runs and monitored large-scale water quality tests
- Assist in tests evaluating slope erosion protections, sediment retention practices, and electrical flocculation devices
During the summer of 2026, I began working at the Stormwater Research Facility at Auburn University. Since it was an outdoor facility, I was able to help run numerous large-scale tests that could be directly related to real-world problems regarding stormwater. While the tests ran, I documented different values such as flow rate and depth in the channels, as well as taking samples for water quality testing. I learned both practical skills, such as how to operate compact machinery, and more technical skills revolving around water quality testing and flow calculations.

I began working at this facility because I wanted to get a better idea of my options after I graduate with my bachelor's. After the various experiences I've had, I think that I could excel if I were to continue my education and pursue my master's. I really like the aspect of solving a real-world problem in large-scale tests like the ones I've been helping out with. My favorite experiment was an electrical flocculation battery that was designed to be implemented in construction sites. The purpose of this machine is to make it easier to drain water retention pools, where releasing a ton of sediment into the surrounding area causes a lot of harm. I like how the experiments conducted here are directly implemented into the community, and I want to be able to create something that has a similar and lasting impact.
Extracurricular Activities
2025 - 2026
American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)
ASABE is a non-profit organization that stretches across the nation and addresses challenges related to environmental sustainability, food security, and access to water. Almost immediately, I was involved in every aspect of the club. This included talks from speakers in the engineering industry, resume-building, and

community engagement. In 2026, I was able to attend the ASABE Southeast Rally, which brings many chapters in southeastern colleges (and sometimes further) together to connect and network. At this convention, I networked with both students and companies in a variety of different Biosystems areas of expertise and learned essential communication skills. Auburn University was voted to host Rally 2027, and I am so excited to help plan and execute this amazing event (stay tuned to see how it goes...).
