Hello!
My name is Charlotte Hageman, and I am from Birmingham, AL. Ever since I was a little kid, I've been obsessed with spending time outside. I love camping, hiking, playing lacrosse, and any other type of outdoor activity. I love going on trips with my family and friends; some vacations are pictured below. I am a very passionate individual with a love for the environment and helping people in my community.
On the way to visit family up north, we stopped here for a couple of days to hike and explore.
We hiked 14 miles round-trip, with an elevation change of approximately 2,500 feet, to stop at a beautiful lake for camping.
We kayaked through an old limestone mine shaft that was flooded due to improper mining practices. Fun fact time! Limestone is known to cause hallucinations if there is improper airflow. This is why archaeologists once believed that King Tut's limestone-carved tomb was haunted.

Why Biosystems Engineering?
I began my college career in General Engineering because I was unsure of what specific track of engineering I was most intrigued by. Throughout freshman year, I contemplated every aspect of my life and how it correlated to my career goals. I have always been very environmentally conscious, even yelling at my siblings when they didn't recycle properly. I also wanted to directly impact my community with something specific that I helped bring to life. I realized that Biosystems Engineering was the best way to bring this dream to life while also corresponding with my values. I was very interested in renewable energy, but soon realized that water management fit my goals perfectly. Following this revelation, I narrowed my major to Ecological Engineering and even added a minor in Watershed Sciences.
I am very interested in water management concerning both wastewater systems and the preservation of natural systems. In relation to my career, I want to make a true impact and have physical proof that my work has positively impacted both the environment and the people in the community. Ideally, I would be able to go out into the field to test a variety of elements and interact with those that the project is affected by. I am a hands-on learner, and I hope to obtain a career that can support my learning style.
